Question about hand for hand

I was playing the $1000 Cardschat Freeroll

10 players left, I'm 10th in chips

Tourney was hand for hand

I raise almost all my chips, villain goes all in, I stall to see if a player gets eliminated to "climb the ladder"

on the other table, there was an all in/call.
Player with less chips loses the all in

after that player loses all his chips, I call and got eliminated

I was sure I would finish in 9th place but I finished 10th.

Shouldn't I have finished 9th since the other player was eliminated earlier?

Edit, because I missread:
The only way that you could have ended in the 10th position is if you had less chips at the begining of the hand. There's no other way.

when more than one player is eliminated during hand-4-hand, the player who had more chips before the hand played out will place higher than the one with fewer chips.

Rum is not mistaken, you probably had fewer chips than 9 player

Exactly. So seeing the other player bust at the other table, OP should have been more inclined to fold, since folding in this situation gives a 100% certain payjump.
