Do you adjust your preflop strategy when playing 8-max vs 9-max tournaments?

In many online MTTs the tables are 8-max, while live events are often 9-max. Do you change your opening ranges depending on the number of players at the table? Or do you stick to the same strategy? I’d love to hear how others adapt their game.

Not much of a difference there, 8 or 9, but mostly adjust open range to the maniac players at the table. Then SHOVE :geek:

In essence, and this depends on hpw people categories position of course, all the positons are the same, so ranges for those positions don't change.

For example, 8 handed, you still have the same Button range, then CO, HJ, LJ, MP, and theoretically UTG+1, technically this is also UTG, but you can treat it as UTG+1, in terms of a range, and therefore ranges for these positions doesn't change.

For 9 handed, you then also have an UTG position added in which should be the only thing you change. You add in this range to your ranges above.

In effect 8 handed is just the same as 9 handed except the true UTG always fold!!

There is no significant difference in the game with 8 and 9 players, respectively, so I play the same, I do not change anything in the game.
