Lately, I’ve been experimenting with different 3-bet sizes in mid-stage MTTs (35–50bb effective stacks). Sometimes I go for 2.5x, other times closer to 3.5x depending on the opener and table dynamics.

Do you think smaller 3-bets are better for keeping ranges wide and disguising strength, or is a larger sizing still more effective to apply real pressure in these stack depths? Curious how others balance this, especially in online tournaments where opponents vary a lot.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your 3 bets, that’s how I base my sizing. If you are trying to isolate the raiser you might want to size up. By going small you’re allowing someone else to squeeze on you or the original raiser to just come back over the top. If you want them to raise back then maybe going small is a good idea. I generally go big but it’s all situational at the time. Keep in mind your goals and what you want to happen and plan ahead in the hand. Good luck!
