My Read On Opp: Wild; Calling down bottom & 2nd pair; Calling all-ins with flush draw or worse & hitting.

I still would have never thought she would call my 3X PF raise with junk Q8. I put her on AQ, KQ or QJ and the only thing I feared on the flop was QQ (not even QT), but she should have re-raised me pre-flop. The one time in a while that I didn't play my AA carefully and this happens.

Any thoughts?

I think with Pocket Aces, 3x the Big blind is the MINIMUM you should raise pre-flop. If you raised it to 600 or 800, would this Bandan have called with Q, 8 suited? There isn't much you could have done after the flop except fold and that's very hard to do in this situation. I don't think I would have folded after the flop unless I thought they have a straight draw which they often catch and it happens TOO frequently.

The problem here is you are trying to analyze a maniac styled player. You can't put logic into why or when they call or raise preflop. I try to figure out betting patterns after the flop since they will see a flop with anything. Do they still call even if they don't hit the flop, do they bet it out every time they do, things like that. They don't follow the rules and only stick around as long as they hit flops. I hate it when you finally get that hand that should beat them and they still win.

I still play my game, 3xBB raise. The hard part is you want to bust them for playing junk but not reward them with all your chips. I don't get into pissing matches with them. Over time they will lose their money faster than most and I just try to get my share, not all of it at once.

Continue to play with this calling station.

I raise to 400 in the first example, but I don't think that changes the result at all. You are being results oriented. I want someone to call with Q8o every single time. This flop is dangerous, and you ended up losing, o well, start a new SNG.

2nd time, I know you are up against an 'inferior' player, but I don't think raising to 140 preflop is going to help you. If you want to raise, just bump it to 40-50 and play the flop. You need to play straight up poker vs. calling stations, this means play the cards!

3X STILL NOT ENOUGH!

Can't get a break! My AA cracked twice in one day! From now on, I'm overbetting them 5X or more!

pokerstars Pot-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
UTG ($19)
MP ($39.10)
CO ($16.50)
Hero ($17.50)
SB ($59.60)
BB ($20.70)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [As], [Ac].
3 folds, Hero raises to $1.5, SB calls $1.25, BB calls $1.

Flop: ($4.50) [Th], [5c], [8s] (3 players)
SB bets $0.5, BB calls $0.50, Hero raises to $6.3, SB raises to $23.7, BB folds, Hero calls $9.70 (All-In).

Turn: ($44.70) [4h] (2 players, 1 all-in)
River: ($44.70) [Kc] (2 players, 1 all-in)
Final Pot: $44.70

Results in white below:
Hero has As Ac (one pair, aces).
SB has 8c 8h (three of a kind, eights).
Outcome: SB wins $44.70.

You definitely don't want to raise it so high that you get NO callers, although I have found that in some games 3xBB is not enough, especially not with limpers. Players seem to feel that once they've called the BB they are obligated to then call any raise after that.

However both situations you described are ideal.

Could you have bet more? Pot limit i would have thought that your bet was the max. You played it perfect, your opponent played fine too - he was just extremely lucky he hit flop AND had an opponent with a big hand.

You're right. I think the best I could do was $1.75. But overall I've been having some decent results in Pot Limit HE lately. Surprised it's not more popular.
