I would definitely bet this flop when checked to, but I dont like an overbet. And I especially dont like your rationale, which is completely flawed. You are way to concerned with protection, which is a secondary thing compared to getting value. When you think, you have the best hand, the goal is never to end the hand but to win as many chips as possible.

Also when you overbet the pot, some of the only hands, that are getting the odds to continue, are exactly flushdraws, while you will force people to fold out all their marginal made hands, which you are way ahead off. And of course there is also the chance, you dont have the best hand, so you dont want to just mindlessly pile in all the chips with just one pair. What if you get raised? Are you then going to stack off or fold?
