“In yesterday’s $5 MTT, I had pocket Tens on the button. UTG raised 3x, two players called. I shoved for 20BB. Was that too aggressive, or is it the right move in this situation?

When you ask someone to review your hand you should always include as much information as possible.

For example, what were the stack sizes of the three other players? Were they much shorter (stack sizes) or did they cover you? How would you describe the actions of those three other players on that table earlier on? Were they LAG, TAG, timid, limping, any two cards, etc.? How many players were at the table?

Everything matters in these situations.

Thats a very standard play, and UTG would need to be the most insane nit for me to not get it in here. You cant really call, because then you are basically setmining in a multiway pot, and you are not deep enough for that. If you shove, you will sometimes get called by JJ+, which of course suck. But far more often you will either get it through or get called by a single player and be a slight favourite against two overcards in a pot with a big overlay. Or you might even sometimes get called by a hand like 66-99 and be a big favourite.

If this is live, I would fold. Usually if people open 3x late in the tournament it's pretty strong, and an UTG range is already strong. You're almost always behind or flipping. Online idk, depends on the UTG player. Also depends a lot on how late in the tournament it is. Early on this would be an easy shove because early a 3x raise is pretty normal.

As Tero said, you should list more factors. But more importantly, you should take more factors into account. I assume you left out things that didn't seem relevant to you, but they are.

That said, shoving is the standard play as fundiver said, it's more like, can we find a particular reason not to do it here
