I had an interesting spot in a small MTT recently: I was on the button with 88, blinds 50/100, stack about 40bb. I opened to 2.2x and the small blind shoved for 25bb. I wasn't sure whether to call or fold. What would you do in this situation?

Fold. Might be a call in GTO world where people allin very wide from the blinds, but in reality it's a fold.

Also this should be in the hand review subforum, and you should include the stakes. I assume it's low stakes, but if it's not, then it might actually be a call.

Online this is a default call. There are hands in his range, that you dominate, like suited wheel aces and smaller pairs, and many hands where you flip with a slight equity edge. With more information you can consider folding, like if you have HUD-stats showing, that SB is very tight, or if its near the bubble.

I usually fold 88 in this spot. From my experience, when the SB shoves 25bb it’s often a strong hand, and 88 doesn’t do well against that range. I’d rather wait for a safer spot instead of risking my stack here.

Im thinking fold. If our stacks a little bigger I might call but this early in the tournament I'm think we aren't doing great against villains range here

I think it's very villain dependent. If the opponent is very loose agro (capable of shoving A5o+, 22+), it's a call. If it's a tight player, better fold.

Also, it depends on the tournament format, is not the same 25bb in an hyper mtt than in a slow paced one.
