I was watching a rerun of the 2005 wsop yesterday and saw a all-in showdown at the final table. I forget the players names but it came down to 2 players. Player A has pocket jacks and raises it to a good amount. Player B has K,J and ponders whether to call. Player A starts saying "Come on, you know you're not going to call." Player B says "I'm either raising or folding." Player A goes "Well, do it then." Player B goes all in and loses. I'm scratching my head wondering why he went all in preflop with K, J. Maybe he thought Player A was bluffing or maybe he thought K,J was a good hand to go all in preflop (I hope not). What do you think?

Sounds to me like he got taunted into the call with table talk. You do the old saying "Strong is weak and weak is strong." This guy was talking like he wanted a call, so he really did not want it.

My only thought not knowing any more than what you posted was that maybe he thought the guy had a weak ace. He hoped that his KJ would split the Ax. Then the hand is only a 60:40 to lose and the pot odds were there for a call and a chance to double up.

You are also only watching highlights, even at the final table, so you don't know what else had happened between them in earlier hands.

I remember the hand.

It was at the Main Event final table when there were 10 players left (this is VERY important!).

Andrew Black I believe had KJ and the reason he pushed was he figured Tex Barch (guy with JJ) would fold so he wouldn't lose and finish in 10th place (not make the final 9 with a guaranteed payday of $1 million...).

I like Black's play...he was being aggressive and trying to steal some chips and take advantage of the tight play on the bubble (10 going down to 9).

This is why KJ was pushed all-in... many players will fold a hand like JJ fearing a bigger hand and not wanting to finish out of a huge payday. Tex Barch just had balls and called figuring he was getting pushed around.
