In case you all didn't realize that CardsChat has podcasts, we have an interview with Phil H which in my opinion, was really good! Love him or hate him, you can't deny he has a lot of entertainment value!

https://anchor.fm/cardschat/episodes/EPISODE-4---CardsChat-with-Phil-Hellmuth-ejcpoq/a-a35u9t8

I agree Phil is definitely an entertaining personality. People love to watch him play. Even those who hate his antics, Phil does get emotional, and he really tilts. Remember this is an act for TV. Phil is a good soul, he does much charity work and he doesn't always need recognition for the good deeds he does. I met Phil once, years ago, and he was a genuine person. There was NOT any cameras and Phil talked to me for a few minutes when he did not need to, he could have told me to F-off, but I said I always loved to see him in the Main. That kicked off 5 minutes of conversation. NOW = is Phil over and/or under rated?? I think Phil is very very good at large field MTTs, he is an expert at exploiting casual poker players. This is why he wins all those bracelets, NOW - drop him in a cash game with 200BBs and some of the wizards and Phil will have a long night. Phil is still playing a 1980's strategy and this can still work in tourney poker BUT I don't think it stands a chance of being profitable in cash games. I love the fact that Phil is crushing the "heads up duels" with Antonio and Dnegs (especially Dnegs) i thought Dnegs was going to crush Phil. Let's gooo Phil ! 1 more Remember these are NOT heads up Cash Games they are tourney style heads up with increasing blinds . Poker is getting interesting again??

I think he is a great player and do enjoy watching and reading his books. He plays well and has a great personality which makes him liked by many people. Keep playing Phil and take them down.

I have always read an article that is classified as an overrated player, I had not read an article that said that he is classified as an underrated player ... I consider that what he has achieved gives him great value among the best in history Of poker, regardless of his style, he has achieved great results, some do not like how he plays or his personality, that is a matter of styles ...

I think his personality is an additional plus to his game, many come to the table pending and colliding with Phil's personality, and that is a huge distraction to the essential part of Poker which is the psychological game, here there is already an advantage for Phiil from the start

Phil Hellmuth is great

Phil Hellmuth is very underrated due to his strange play style and the fact that he hasn't fully embraced new school and accepted poker stratgey. However, he is very talented at poker and has great instincts.

During his long career, Phil Hellmuth has become the butt of jokes from colleagues countless times. The reason for this is the current image of a player who constantly complains and scolds opponents for bad hands.

Phil Hellmuth is without a doubt the most controversial figure in modern poker. A record number of World Series bracelets are on the same scale. The constant criticism from respected professionals, the ridicule of the young Internet generation and the well-known antics at the tables-on the other.

Hello. Phil should not only be better rated, but is an under-rated actor as well. It sure would be fun to see him in a western movie as a bad guy, like Jesse James or Billy The Kid. I could just see him in a saloon, drunk, raising ol' Billy, flipping over poker tables and shooting the villain.

Underrated? I'd say so. He is definitely in the top 0.01% of poker players world wide. But his results in life high stakes cash games plus his personality makes people not respect his achievements.

He's shown remarkable resiliency winning bracelets in every decade he has played the wsop. There is no doubt he is amazing at tournaments and SNG-type structures. In HU he just took down Negreanu 3x in a row and always has good showings in the NBC challenges.

But on HSP or The Big Game, yeah, he might not be beating many people at the 200/400+ nosebleeds. Doesn't mean he isn't great still.

Yes an underrated player that many make fun of but his results are undisputable. Great for the game though - if he is on TV, I watch and actually cheer for him to win. But eventually, he blows up - great entertainment!

Yes, he is underrated. I love how he stuck it to all his detractors. He was the underdog against D Negs and emerged victorious, raking in chips from his bluffs and value hands. I love Daniel too, but I really think he didn't give Phil the respect he deserves and he underestimated him.
Sure, Phil's behavior can be ugly, but when asked if he was going to bring up his wins to his opponents he said "no, you can't be a bad winner and a bad loser", so at least he is a gracious winner. That's cool. I'm a fan.

I think in regards to the article linked in the first post, the writer was only trying to get some chatter going and I believe the op-ed was somewhat in response to a Twitter post, Joey Ingram made, too.

I'm a Phil H fan and accept his antics as part of his game, too. In my opinion, numbers don't lie and he has a boatload to back up his poker credibility.

Very underrated. Some televised hands don’t make sense and are wrong so the new school players don’t think he’s great. But his results are incredible and I think white magic is real. Some of his plays, you can’t explain but its what separates him from others.

I think this recent win of Phil Hellmuth's over Daniel Negraneu is proof of his poker abilities and how under rated he really is. No one is lucky enough to win double digits in WSOP bracelets in multiple poker formats not just Texas Hold'em.

I think Phil Hellmuth is generally bad at poker. He has too many childhood emotions. I wonder who even included him among the top-notch players?
