Online Poker in the United States?

its going to be a long process, not to mention the government shut down right now. Poker may actually be the last thing on their minds right now. Although new jersey just started passing legislation for online gaming. I hope its just a domino effect next and states just keep jumping on board. I just cant see it happening even a year from now though

talk to your state legislator, let them know it's an important issue to you. Pick up the phone and make a call, they will at least hear you out. Hoping and wishing won't do a thing. Being proactive will.

Legislators don't know, or don't think, the issue matters to enough people to bother with it, so they don't bother with it. And if you, or you, or anyone for that matter, isn't willing to let them know that it is important, they won't change their minds.

Curious, I've always wonder'd why are American's are allowed to play on certain sites but not other sites?

I mean I see American players at Carbon/Bovada/BCP but your not allowed to play on sites such as Stars/FTP/PP, why is this the case? What is it about certain sites that allow you all to play at and other sites you can't play at?

I believe FTP, Stars and not sure what PP is ... they ran with the money. Lot of different types of laws being broke. I never fully understand why after everyone did not get paid their rightful moneys BUT want these poker sites to be legal in the US.

Always hear that the us government, hate hate towards by people because these sites are not allowed.

I honestly think people should be happy a government gives a dam. Not sure why the government is to blame.

Seems like it is going to be a state by state situation for some number of years. I agree with the above poster, if you are in Alabama or Georgia, you might never see online poker from a PokerStars level site again. I think once California gets it going any fairly progressive state, Colorado, Washington, Illinois, etc. will have sites up and running and all the operating states will then be connected soon after.

This is the most likely course of action. The combined player pool gradually increases via states compacting with one another (ala Powerball).

Even most of those bible belt states will join the pool wen they see the revenue that can be generated.

My prediction: All 43 states that currently allow Powerball lottery gaming will be pooled into some sort of online poker compact within 10 years.

In California, Online Poker will be fighting a mighty powerful Indian Gaming Commission that generates Billions and donates Millions to California Dept. of Transportation, Policing and Security; not to mention campaign contributions.

Cause some sites want to risk any potential problems that could occur by allowing US players to play whether legal or with the deposit/withdrawal difficulties, But other sites that are large and want to do things by the book simply do not want to risk there business by letting US players play

Im sure hoping that Florida gets in on the trend. poker stars and FTP are admittedly missed, but I can live without them. For now will just play where an when I can and hope for the best.

I don't see California jumping on board that band wagon. The fallout from the FTP and UB cheating scandal involved many folks. Also strong gaming at local Poker casinos like Bicycle Club, not to mention all the Indian casinos who have a strong poker lobby.

At least a few states are ready for online gaming, with Nevada already running. It helps the cause considerably. Now we have to hope our home states don't exclude us from being able to play. Poker Stars is taking the right approach, and i look for them to get in if the U.S. ever gets the head -out-of-bumm and gets some legislation passed.

I don't follow, why wouldn't Poker-Stars want the U.S (If I recall correctly), the U.S was one of the biggest online pool for Poker-Stars correct me If I'm not mistaken and by not allowing you all to play their, they would in-fact be losing out on a ton of business which doesn't really sound all that bright IMO.

The best thing to do is search black Friday for poker on google for information on this. Basically Pokerstars and Fulltilt were shut down by the Department of Justice in the US. Both sites were fully involved in the American market but the Doj siezed the IP address and forced them out. Everyone who had money in the sites cannot get it out becuase the government will not allow it. Pokerstars recently struck a deal with the Doj to buy full tilt poker and pay back all the US players the funds that were not payed back when the sites were shut down. In doing this Pokerstars makes a good step to being allowed back into the US.

The other sites are allowing US players play but against US law. It is condsidered unlawful for the webiste to accept bets over the internet. The sites are most likely allowed to continue since there are so many small ones that the government doesn't care to keep track of them. Considering most o the site only have like 5k people online at a time compared to 1 to 200k that pokerstars and fulltilt had when they were in full force.
