First I really do think the internet is not good for kids.  Unless using a PC from the local library or while at school.  Otherwise there are programs that need to be used at the home to prevent children from accessing applications that are made for adults.
To ban poker because of this, well online poker is ridiculous.  Now I know lot of families don't know of programs that block or restrict internet access for those who are under age but if you read your PC manual, there will be a section on this.  So follow this guidlines and maybe learn what your pc is capable of before letting your children play around on it and there will be no reason to block online gambling.
Parents need to know there are free programs that will restrict programs.  I use to work at a hospital, they would let you go online but it was very hard to do things that were blocked.  They can't allow hackers so they had a security system in place.  Should do the same thing at home.   Million of ways to block content, including your router, modem, pc itself and all the thousands of programs available. 
I would like this to be at the least tried first then see what you think.  Don't just let your kids turn the pc on and surf awasy, learn if first.  See what the capabilities are of a pc.  Learn how to use it so you can have control instead of being unaware.
