Okay, after adding in my own two cents on the matter, i figured that some research should be down on the subject. So I gathered up my trusty notebook and my favorite pen(It is riddled with teeth marks from frantically chewing on it during those all to often stressfull hands) and i headed downtown to talk with my buddy, Crackhead Jay. Yes, Jay is a crackhead (His I.Q. used to be like 200 or something like that, He is very entertaining, He also holds a masters degree in mathmatics and a doctorate in philosophy and ethics from a very reputable university) But Jay is also the most amazing card counter I've ever seen( he uses a High, low method With upto +5,-5) even on crack. He supports his $500 dollar a day habit by playing blackjack online and in casinos. Now, according to crackhead Jay, "reputable" online casinos and poker rooms use random number generators to come up with the hands that are dealt. The "reputable" ones generally have a Third party generate these numbers for them using a radioactive decay. (I'm still researching what exactly a radioactive decay is, so if you know you could tell me and save time) Now the problem with random number generators for Blackjack or Poker is that they are randomly generated. This is just a advanced computer program randomly picking numbers. Now, most of us know the actual odds of seeing the so called monster hands( quads, straights and Royal Flushes) so i'm not going to bother posting them right now. ( if you need them, well, I'm sure you know how to use a search engine) So, One might make the assumption that with the extremely high amount of online hands being dealt we should see monster hands being dealt more frequently. Allthough they really wouldn't be more frequent we would just percieve them appearing more often compared to our experiences in Live Play, especially if we spend every waking moment playing poker(And I know lots of you do, Hell, Even I play two or three games at a time, sometimes). That being said, I still find it improbable that we should see a lot of monster hands, beating other monster hands. But improbable is not impossible I did see four aces Vs. a Royal flush in a live game of hold'em that I wasn't playing in.(Not that was a really big pot). Since crackhead Jay is the only math guy I know, I have asked him to figure out the odds of seeing quads and Straight/royal flushes in the same hands, Quads and Quads, Straight or flushes and a Fullhouse. If he can manage to put the pipe down I'll post the results, but in the meantime, any math people who are bored and would like to figure those out go right ahead.(and please email me the results or post them here) My Final Thought When I was a young lad about knee high to a grasshopper, my Pops showed me a plethora of ways to manipulate a card deck. I could sit here for hours and talk about the many techniques that are employed by cheats and magicians alike. But that's not the issue here. If I were playing in a Home game or an underground Game, If i saw more than one monster hand in a session or even two monster hands in the same hand I would be checking the deck over and over and I'd be watching everyone deal to try and catch the cheat. Because there would be no doubt in my mind that someone was cheating. I also would not return to the game if I wasn't 100% sure it was honest. Seeing as we play online and none of us see the dealer or the cards one should always be skeptical of the honesty of the game. But no one forces you to put your money in and no one forces you to play. So we shouldn't complain, when we take for granted the legitamcy of the two cards that are tossed in front of us in an online game. If i owned a poker room and my profit came from the rake. Every single person would be dealt a monster hand, and I'd go way out of my way to make this happen. Everyone would be going all in, all the time And That is my two cents for today. ______________________________________________________ The maind of a perfect man is like a mirror, it grasps nothing, it expects nothing.
