From my own experience, I have been playing poker for many years, and it wasn't until I dedicated myself to studying the strategies, and understanding the rivals, the moves that make the majority, that I won my first tournament. I went from celebrating winning 0.25 to even winning a tournament with $1000 for the first prize, my progress according to me is due to my skill and not because out of charity the poker rooms decided that the “bots” are playing for me.
