Welcome, online poker enthusiasts! In this thread, we will explore the intriguing dimension of non-verbal language in online poker and how it can affect our decisions at the virtual table. Although we can't see each other face to face, there are subtle signals that can help us decipher the intentions and emotions of our opponents. Here are five tips to enhance your skills in reading non-verbal language:

Response Time: Observe the time your opponents take to act in each hand. Quick responses may indicate weak hands or automatic decisions, while prolonged delays could signal deliberation in stronger or more complex hands.
Betting Patterns: Pay attention to how your opponents change their bet sizes and the pace at which they play. Drastic alterations may reveal confidence or insecurity in certain situations.
Chat and Emojis: Many platforms allow the use of chat and emojis during the game. Take note of interactions in the chat, as specific messages or emoticons can provide clues about the emotional or strategic state of your rivals.
Game Speed: Watch for changes in your opponents' playing speed. A sudden increase in betting speed or a decrease in response time can convey valuable information about their hands.
Voice Control: If you have the option of voice chat, listen to the players' voices. Variations in tone of voice may reveal nervousness, composure, or excitement in different situations.

Now it's your turn! Do you have any additional tips or techniques for reading non-verbal language in online poker? Share your knowledge and experiences in the comments! Good luck at the tables! 🃏💻🍀

I think, these are already basically it. As for response time the most reliable tell is an insta-check, because it mean, the player clicked the "check/fold" button, even before the action got to them. Which show a total lack of interest in their hand (so never do this yourself). As for betting patterns its kind of straight forward. A small bet like 10% of the pot looks weak, and usually it is just that. But if the player then puts in a 3-bet after getting raised, thats usually a very strong hand.

One interesting thing which I think has changed somewhat in recent times……the donk bet.
I don’t think this is anything like as a good a signal of weakness as it used to be! Players are mixing it up much more and donking with decent holdings much more often

Any thoughts?!

You're right, some players may make "donk bets" with strong hands to protect their range and prevent their opponents from taking advantage of them. They can also use it as a blocking move to gather information about the strength of their opponents' hands. I don't know much about it myself, but I'll look into it. Greetings!

I will do an instant check, but I also attempt to balance it with nutted hands. I almost always will use a nutted hand first, then I can be lazy and click "check" for instant checks the next time which might or might not be for value, but my instant check timing is known to be balanced. Hard to keep up with new people coming in and the like, so maybe not the best idea long term. Enjoying it so far, so time will tell.

Those are some good ones. If it hasn’t been covered already slow rolling and slow playing, time banking, quick calling or quick raising

I agree with your advice, although the player often imitates thinking so as not to bet, it is more to see what the player does throughout the tournament than the answer he has in a hand.
