When I first started playing, on Littlewoods, there was conversation all the time during games. Now, on poker stars and 888, there is hardly any. Do you think that is because people are concentrating more on the game, or that they just can't be bothered, or perhaps don't do it because English is not their first language?

I think, its a combination of all of that. There are many players these days from countries in Eastern Europe and South America, who might not speak english or at least not well enough, that they want to chat. There are also many people, who multitable, and who therefore dont have time to chat. It has always been recreational players, who liked to chat. And as they make up a smaller and smaller percentage of the player pool, it tends to die out. Some have also turned the chat off, because when someone finally chat, its often in an abusive way. Few people feel any need to be told, that someone is going to f.... their mother, that they can f... themselfes, what a f.... idiot they are, how poorly they played a hand (which they won) or anything of that nature :)

i think people talk less because of some of the abuse that is out there. there are a lot of trash talkers out there, but its the ones that get so upset when they lose a hand they go bonkers. we have to weed these people out . that is why many people block chatting all together when they play

Luckily these kind of people still teach everyone in their table their language though.
Usually you see that often enough in cardchat games

I think one cause is more people playing on mobile where chat is either unavailable or impossible to read... I rarely have chat on unless it's a game where I know people who may be regged, don't think you're missing much with most random chat lol

Personally can't be bothered and mostly have it turned off until I get too the final table of an MTT. For cash tables I always have it turned off. I turnoff all throwables and extra garbage like that as well if the site has it. It's mostly all just whining and crying anyways.

Cheers!!!

When you play several tables, there's just no time for chats.

In particular, I don't usually chat in the chat because I'm playing on several tables and that distracts me. Normally I have the chat disabled. I try to continue doing my thing so as not to get distracted. I also ignore when they throw objects.

Hi.
There can be many reasons. But in most cases, people play poker with the goal of winning money and this is their main motivation, so it makes no sense to be distracted by chat conversations. Personally, I play both for fun and for money, but since I usually play 3-4 tables at the same time, I just don't have time for conversations :)
Good luck :)

Typing messages during a game is fine for Shorthand Typist's who can type over 100 words or more in a minute, but for a two fingered jockey like myself, even this simple sentence could take me 5 minutes to get on the screen. :)

Nowadays there are a lot of tables open, there's no time to even greet everyone.

I don't like negotiations at all, the only game time option is the final table when a deal is made for money

I think on pokerstars a lot of it has to do with the fact that there are choices as to what you have things set on at bottom left side of your computer screen. I bet that less than half the players even have it set on chat. I think a few years back you had to have it on chat and the other options weren't there but I could be wrong.

I agree with the cancellation of conversations at the table, because sometimes it takes away your concentration in very difficult hands and that leads to whether or not you win the tournaments and a very important factor is that now, everything is aggressive and discriminatory and for winning hands or some good pot they insult you or come with nicknames or sayings so it's better the way it is now without conversations
