an opportunity for the development of poker or a threat to its existence?

I do not think that there is a threat to the existence of poker. You can always play offline if you are afraid of a dishonest game online.

I believe it can be both, it depends on what they decide to do.

Maybe both. A threat to poker (by people who cheat or bots) in the short term. But in the long term, the only way to fight AI is with a smarter, better AI.

So maybe we play in a virtual world controlled by a world-controlling superintelligent AI in the future. Dystopia or Utopia. It will be wonderful or horrible. I see no way it can be something in between.

This is not news. In chess, AI has been outplaying humans since the '90s.

To combat this on chess.com if you use a chess bot to win (can be recognised by patterns) you will get banned.

Poker has not been conquered yet, but if it will be there will be comparable solutions.

The chess ai is a good learning tool to play against. They have various levels as your elo improves.

Unfortunately, online poker was conquered by artificial intelligence several years ago, in 2017 and later in 2019. The Libratus algorithm, and later Pluribus, defeated serious professional players such as Darren Elias and Chris Ferguson. The question is, where will this lead in the near future? Will players be left with only live, land-based poker?

Right now, AI in online poker is still pretty trash imo. if you try to get answers from chat gpt it is not accurate. But give it a few years… it’s gonna be a monster, and a lot of players won’t even see it coming.

I think it is so strong that if it were allowed for general use by poker rooms, playing online poker would become pointless.

AI can help players improve, but if it takes over games, it could kill the fun for real players.

It's hard to say how artificial intelligence will affect the poker industry in the future. I am sure that it will not affect on live poker at all. In online poker, a lot will depend on poker rooms, which must ensure that real people are sitting at their tables, not bots controlled by artificial intelligence. I think this is the main threat to fair poker.

I think AI is a bit of both. On one hand, solvers and training tools have already pushed the game forward by showing players new strategies and helping people study more effectively. The overall skill level in online poker has definitely gone up because of that. On the other hand, if AI starts being used in real-time at the tables, then it’s a serious threat. Nobody wants to play against a computer that always makes the “perfect” move. That would take the fun and fairness out of the game. So I guess it comes down to how sites handle it — AI as a study tool is great, but AI as a hidden opponent would destroy trust in online poker.
