I never quit my job but I was laid-off back in '08 and wound up on unemployment. To supplement a little income I started playing online poker. I've never "hit it big" or anything but my roll has come in handy in some emergency situations. I have a job again and all is, somewhat, well. I wish I could quit my job and play full time.

I plan to start doing playing professionally in the future. OH wait, that's my retirement when i can play more.

To be honest I have never though this way. I am not good enough but if I was it would change the game I love to a game of work.

I never quit my job to play full time poker, because my job is very good. And I don't have any plans in the future to become a professional player, I think poker will always only be a hobby for me.

I'm retired and I do small woodworking as a freelancer, but if I quit my job to make a living at poker, I'll starve to death.:D

Alas, I have a slightly different procedure. Lost my job and trying to make money playing poker. I play MTT, low limits 2-3$. Not everything works out. I have to constantly work on the game, study and play a lot. Otherwise it is impossible to achieve success.

I’ve never considered it but I’m not nearly good enough to do it.

If you’re good enough to make a living at it - you just will. You won’t have to think about it.

I'm a bartender and musician here in Brazil, I don't see myself with a good income in the future and I intend to play poker for a part-time job. But would never quit my job, i love my job

Not me! But I have a few friends who were full-time online poker players and went to live in Thailand for 3 years. Poker fully supported their expenses there :)) Now they are back though... don't know if they got tired of the game or lost their touch, but now they are back to their real-life jobs!

I also really hope that by my retirement, online poker will still be alive!:icon_sant

Poker is becoming tougher and tougher, I don't think it is a very good idea to go full time, maybe now its possible if you put enough work but it won't last forever.

I am not good enough, but I guess even if I were, I would not quit my job, as playing poker full-time would be then just another job.
If I HAD to do it, th efun would get lost on me.

I don’t see the point in quitting work because of poker, all this can be easily combined, and work does not interfere with the game in any way, so we work calmly and then we also play calmly)

Hm, true, but on the other hand, most interesting tournaments take place in the evening (in my time zone) and if I make it to the bubble or even the final tables, that means one a few hours sleep.

I could never imagine quitting my job for poker. First of all because I am not that good, second it's just a hobby and third because I'm more of a risk averse person, so I need a safe income.

I think if you play for a living and have a downstream, it can be quite mentally challenging.

This idea was in my head 5 years ago.
I tried this for 3 months or so but I figured that made me play only for money and put a lot of pressure on me..so I switched again for a normal job and play poker in free time

I once had the thought of playing at least one or two of the biggest tournaments possible a week. Maybe I will do it someday, but it will be when I win the right amount of money in one of the tournaments.🤪😀

I think it's possible as long as you manage to pay the bills by playing online poker
