I had an interesting hand at my last live session. I had K-Q on a K-K-3-3-10 board. My opponent had 3-6. After the KK3 flop, he led out for 15, so I just called. There were two other people in the hand and I didn't want to scare them off. But they folded. After the turn 3, my opponent led out for 30. Again I just called. Honestly, at this point I felt we were chopping the pot and didn't want to raise. After the river, he checked, so I bet 100. He looked very pained, so right away I knew he didn't have the other king. After a few seconds, he flips his cards over, but doesn't call. He finally asks me, if I fold, will you show? I said sure why not. He thought about it a few more seconds and folded. I showed him my king, and he said, if someone tells you they'll show, they always have it. I guess I shouldn't have said anything. Might have cost me $100. How do you handle it when someone asks if you'll show if they fold?

But the good news is I stacked him later in the night when I runner-runnered a full house to overcome his flopped top two pair.

One of the most interesting things about the game is the player-opponent relationship, I don't see the harm in showing your cards when they ask you so the (opponent) will know that you are a precision player and not a recreational player, the benefit is that if you want to bluff they will think about paying you. I usually hardly ever show my cards at the end unless I see my opponent or several opponents think and consume their time, I show them so they don't feel so bad, it's poker and anything can happen.

I am not a live player, so take this as advice from someone, who have no personal experience with the situation. But in general I think, that if you show your hand to an opponent, who folded, you are just giving away free information. At least if you were betting for value, and they asked you, if you would show. This opponent clearly just wanted confirmation, he made a good fold, and you gave him that confirmation for free. I am not sure, he would have called regardless. But at least he would then have had a nagging feeling, that maybe he got bluffed. And maybe he would then have felt more inclined to make a light hero call in a future hand. Its slightly different, if you were bluffing. Then showing the bluff can tilt the opponent and create dymanics for future hands. Like when Will Kassouf talked up a storm against his opponent, they folded, and he showed them "9 high like a boss".

You should never say anything when asked a question during the hand. Good players will ask just to see your comfort level. Don’t give away anything.

I think you're right, you just gave away money, poker is a game of info.... not just for this hand but for the next hand and the next and the next... don't give info away for free unless it's to your benefit, if anyone wants to see my cards they can pay up👍

I'll take this into account in my live game.

Personally, I don't show my hand online or live unless it is special. Straight flush of maybe 4 of a kind in w friendly home game.

What funny is a hand I played in a live tournament last night. I had already taken a bad beat and was just looking for a good opportunity. A limp fest was happening, and I took the opportunity to take down the pot. When it folded around someone said I wonder how strong his hand was and the comment from someone else was this guy never bluffs. It was a bluff.

This is why I agree with fundiver. showing the hand is just giving out free information. If you want to know what I have it will cost, you to find out.

Obviously you probably did not mind this table talk, because the person was wrong. But its actually collusion to share that kind of "read" during the game. So in a similar situation you could consider calling the floor and have the player warned :)

That is something I did not think about to be honest. I do happen to know the person so I am sure he was not colluding, but this is something i should remember if someone else does say it. Great advice mate.

Bet was too big for them.

They're just playing around talking. If it was an ace or something on the river then you would have a chance of them calling you but not with that board texture and you calling all the bets.

The story doesn't add up.

The little speech is the "I know you "probably" have the King and I'll show you my cards and I'm hoping you show me the king and I'll feel a lot better about folding" speech. You should have value bet them less and they might have paid you off depending on what they think of your table image if they even considered that, lol

If your image is tight solid then you don't need to show them, they already knew.

So improper bet sizing from looking at the board texture is the issue the talk was nonsense to get you to show their guess. How you deal with that, is for another post.

I only talk after the hand, for obvious reasons. I think Jamie Gold ruined it for everyone 17 years ago in his main event run. For some reason the practice of extracting info from another player in a hand via oral banter has been deemed undesirable and/or outlawed. I really don't agree w/it, but a rule is a rule, so I don't say crap until the hand is over.
