My friends and I bought a case of chips to play a home game, and a question arose. In HU, the button is the small blind, right? And in the case of dealing cards, does the first one go to the person who is not on the button?

...the first card always goes to the SB... home games are a good way to test your skills and see the results of your studies...

In heads up play the button is always the small blind. You never deal the button first.

This is not true for heads-up play.

In heads up play the button is always the small blind. You never deal the button first.
This is correct. In heads-up play, the button is always the small blind. The dealing goes a bit differently when it's heads-up.

Correct Heads-Up Play:
  • Button = Small Blind
    • Posts the small blind
    • Acts first preflop
    • Acts last on all postflop streets
  • Other Player = Big Blind
    • Posts the big blind
    • Acts second preflop
    • Acts first postflop
Card Dealing Order:
  • Cards are dealt first to the big blind, then to the button (small blind).

Just want to add, that strategy wise this makes heads-up play different from blind vs. blind play, even though both situations only involve two players. Best of luck with your home game :)
