What are your best tricks for getting max value from strong hands?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about value betting lately. It’s one thing to hit a big hand, but it’s another to actually get paid. I sometimes feel like I either scare people off with big bets or don’t bet enough and miss value.

So I wanted to ask:

What are your best tricks or strategies for extracting the most value from strong hands?

Hello, I have a hard time extracting value from my hands in general when I have been patient and with only one player against me, but I have often been ruined with good cards, if I sit and muddle because I did not know how to continue after the flop or how much to ask for an ante flop.
Honestly when I have AA or other good cards I have great emotions because I played to get value I did not ask for much and I lost, I also gave all inn but I was not really paid, so my opinion is how the table and the opponent feel.

The best strategy is watching what players do when people bet and what card they show. By playing the player it will allow you to get more money for value.

2nd thing is thinking about what they have. If your playing there range you can decide to bet smaller or larger to get value. Just remember if it does not work when you bet ask why? Was it to big a bet? Was it likly they did not have anything to call you with like a missed draw

You gotta analize the range of your rival, his/here profile as a player (passive, loose, etc), and make the best bet in consequence.

if we are talking about post flop and you got a nuts then I usually slow play and try to keep player in the pot with much weaker hands and check turn/river to let the opponent bluff

Bang on. Read Luvepoker's post over and over until it sinks in...this is the definitive answer, IMO.

One other thing to consider, is that you can't know what they have, so its impossible to value bet right all the time, you can only make a best decision. Accepting this helps! Sometimes you have a monster, and they have nothing, you're never getting value in that spot, just accept it and move on!

What is truly a mystery is when I suddenly get AA in the BB, and NOBODY even limps, not even the SB. It’s hands like this that are very frustrating and start the conspiracy theories in my head

Be consistent with your bets. If you are going to bet, dont bet 33 with a mid hand and then 100% when you hit. Of course its always going to depend on the villain, however not having a too predictable range based on your bet-sizes can be helpful. Keep in mind though that bad players tend to call you more easily, even with a weaker hit on the flop or a pocket pair. If you feel you have a strong hand and face a such player it could be worth to bet bigger then usual to maximise.

Great topic! For me, it’s all about tailoring the size to the villain, bet smaller vs calling stations to keep them in, and go bigger vs aggressive types who might bluff-catch. Also, mixing in some delayed value bets helps when the board runs clean.

Depends on the oponnent and the hand, if its aces I usually just go ALL in, if its three of a kind Depends on the oponent and the spot, if I feel like he see me as a thief I just pot flop and turn and shove river XD
