If you are just starting out, I think the best way is to combine free study materials with actual play. Websites like PokerStrategy, Upswing Poker, or Jonathan Little’s free content on YouTube can give you a very solid foundation without having to invest money right away. Even forums like this one are super valuable, because you can read other people’s experiences and learn from their mistakes.
I’d also recommend starting with play money or very low stakes games, just to practice decision making without risking too much. At the same time, reviewing
hands afterwards (either by yourself or posting them here) will help you understand what you did right or wrong. Hand history discussion is one of the fastest ways to improve.
Finally, try to focus on the basics first: starting hand selection, position, and
bankroll management. Many beginners want to learn advanced bluffs and tricks, but if you get the fundamentals strong, everything else becomes easier later on. What type of poker are you most interested in learning right now — cash games, tournaments, or maybe sit & go’s?
