depends on the prize of the blinds and the stack of the BB.
Let's make a real long term tournament with high blinds in the end.
Say the blinds are 10.000/20.000 and your stack is 50.000. BB has 120.000 stack (after paying blinds).
Now moving all-in could be the worst idea you ever had!
What if the BB has a really nice hand. Played aggressive before and has seen you go all-in once before on the SB.
He'd be willing to call.
By going all-in, you indicate: "I'm defending my blinds and it's gonna cost ya to see my cards!"
Now this could work one or two times. But after that.. you are being called sometime my friend!
Now it really depends on how the BB defends his BB. If everyone folds, and the SB "just" calls. Why not raise it to see if that hand of the SB is really that good!
So if you really have rubbish, just fold!
You take a beating of 10k, but you didn't get banged out the tour, and maybe you get a really nice card in the upcoming
hands.
Or if you have a medium hand, try raise the BB (would cost 30k then! ending your stack at 30k. If he calls, he does have a valid enough hand to see the flop. you'd be happy you didn't go all-in!
However, he also has a bigger stack, so watch the BB play before you decide what the best way is.
If i really have rubbish, I usually fold and try to take a pot at the button or just one hand before i'm in the blinds! (agression on Early position. Risky but against pro's it could be too you advantage).
Better yet... don't let your stack get too small
(I believe i've seen some other good articels on playing on blinds. Maybe take a look there)
