Basically short stories about characters at the Village Club Card Room. No poker strategy or anything like that. A very fast read, 170 pages of not small print, short chapters.

If you step back and look at the bigger picture you can see where he was trying to go with the book. But some sections were pretty boring, and even the ones that were kind of "cute" stories were not all that interesting.

I think it ends up being a case of "guess you had to be there": I'm sure all these different personalities and characters are really interesting, and it seemed like it would be a good idea to collect their stories, but it just didn't translate into a book.

I think the best use would be for a screenwriter who wanted some characteratures to adapt for his poker movie.
