Do you think poker is more of a game of skill or a game of chance? Curious to hear different opinions.

It is clearly skill game, although luck cam influence results short term. But in the long run skillful players will always be more successful.

I've always said that poker is luck, and no one is going to change my mind.

I think 40% luck is 60% skill. No matter how lucky, in the end, the player who makes good use of patience+circumstances wins.

Good players = 100% skill

Not so good players = mostly luck (& they will also assume that this is what poker is... bigger % luck with some smaller % skill).

Of course there is a lot of luck in the game... ie. having very high equity spots hold up in tournaments; Winning flips at (especially at crucial moments); etc.

So for most I'd like to wish you 'Good luck'
& for others... 'hey great skill!'

In online games 50%/50%
In live games, the ratio of skills to luck is 75%/25

short-term luck and long-term skill, maybe some hands you can get lucky, but when you're not luckier you're going to lose all those chips

Poker is a game where skill and chance play all but different roles. In the long run, luck can influence the outcome of a hand, but in the long run, the best players are more likely to win because of their skills.

I’d say poker is a mix of both skill and chance — you've got to know the math, strategy, and read your opponents, but luck still plays a role in the short term. And sometimes, a little intuition goes a long way too!

Online games are much harder and thus require more skill and less luck to beat...

1/2 or 1/3 live isn't even real poker, The level of skill required to beat 200NL which has the same $2 big blind is unfathomable in comparison.

You just like live more which is why you favour it and try and say it requires more skill when the universal understanding is that online is significantly harder and most players who come from the online domain absolutely terrorize live players at big events. :D

I think it's a bit of both, with skill being the dominant factor.

In my opinion, poker is more a game of skill than chance, especially over the long term. While luck plays a role in individual hands—since no one can control the cards they're dealt—what really sets winning players apart is their ability to make strategic decisions, calculate odds, read opponents, and manage risk. I've seen how professionals consistently outperform others, which wouldn’t be possible if luck were the main factor. So even though chance influences short-term outcomes, skill is what truly drives long-term success in poker.

In my opinion, it's more about inspiration, patience, luck and knowledge. If you also have skill, then you are definitely an ace at this adrenaline-filled game.

97% luck, 3% skill 💪🍀💪
every hand is a new chance to win
so every hand is a ’new’ flip
1 rule
or you win the hand or you lose like in blackjack
to make difference you need to make biggggg wins and get max value of your wins and keep the loses small posible
you can not win every hand, but more important you can’t loose every hand too 💪🍀
good lucks my friend 🍀🍀🍀
