I think it weeds out the weak, the emotionally weak. And maybe we also like pain a little bit. In a tournament everybody gets eliminated except one person. And we keep coming back for more.

Nah I know why I keep coming back. Competition, fun, enjoyment, relaxing and I like having a hobby I can make decent side money doing. I certainly don't keep coming back cause I'm addicted as yesterday I played my first MTT and 400 hands of 10nl full-ring in 2025. Wasn't even really preplanned before hand. Just opened up pokerstars noticed a MTT I like starting in 10 mins so I made my normal $50 deposit. Busted without making the money but out lasted late registration. Overall was a break even day. Started with $50 ended with $50.

Its def that feeling of the chance to win big. The highs are massive, and if you can keep the lows from affecting you too much, then its all good!!

Also that feeling of learning something and improving is addictive too

Yes, everyone has emphasized many points about why we return to the table and why we learn. These emotions, the adrenaline of competition, add richness to life and can bring significant income. There is just a small difference: when you simply play for enjoyment, or when poker becomes your sole profession that supports you. Then you must love your job!!

Actually poker keeps us coming back to the game even after losses. Why? I have many reasons for coming back. But the main reason is to prove first of all to myself that I can achieve success despite all the problems. I come back to poker to prove to myself that I'm still alive.
