Hey everyone đź‘‹

Like probably half the people who post here, I’m another dreamer trying to chase the pro poker life (cue my dad’s voice: “Just another dreamer, kid”).

The thing is—I’m dead serious about it. I’ve been grinding, studying hands, watching streams, and trying to build up the skills, but I keep running into two major problems:

  1. Tilt (like full-on emotional dumpster fire tilt)
  2. Chasing losses in the casino section or playing way above my bankroll

I know discipline is key to longevity in this game, but damn, it’s hard to hold onto when variance sucker punches you and ego whispers, “You got this, just one more bullet…”

If any of you have legit strategies that helped you keep your cool, stay in your lane, or stop yourself from clicking into the blackjack pit after a rough session—please hit me with them.

I’m here to learn, get better, and maybe—just maybe—turn this dream into something real. Appreciate the space and any wisdom from the more battle-tested among you.

There is no set recipe for poker. Poker is a medium-long term process. Some people are lucky enough to speed up this process.

Tip for becoming a professional:

Joining a poker team focused on improving yourself and not on money will make a big difference to you as a player and as a human being, because it requires you to change yourself by becoming a mature person with responsibilities.

Joining a study group can help a lot.

Always focus on improving yourself, because if you think of poker in terms of money, the process will take longer.

Playing for yourself:
When playing for yourself, you can hire a coach to catch your mistakes or join a poker group to discuss and study.
Reviewing your tournaments with the help of solvers will give you a huge boost.
Play the lowest limits in a simple way, aiming for more (OPR preflop) and always more, always focusing more on trying to understand your opponents' ranges and how they behave in a certain position instead of focusing only on your hands.

Get that tilt and yourself under control. Your emotions are the only thing you have control of. So you need to concentrate all your efforts and energy towards that every time you play.
This will come with experience and with study. There are several study guides to help you with tilt and self control, if you are serious about doing Poker for a living I would look into this.

Hello Poker fans,

Welcome, I will try not to repeat the great advice you have received; like making posts to level up in frerolls and member status, VIP Program and other valuable stuff. All part of sharing and being encouraged by like-minded people along the way :D

I can identify with you and the roller coaster ride that you are on and can tell you one thing - rage quitting used to be a thing for me until CardsChart - so - You are in the right Community!

Every journey is different but I would like to share mine and join you on yours: Zero Bankroll Challenge (this is my thread).

Set poker goals that you can achieve and track short, medium and long term.
  • My short-term goal was to finish the 30 Day Poker School (1 month :D)
  • My medium-term goal was to play freerolls until I made a $100 bankroll. (Put what you learn into practice "risk free" )
  • Long-term goal - Bankroll Management and tracking - ladder up in stakes based on your bankroll and type of game Cash or MTT.
  • Major milestone - play a live tournament on my next big vacation - within my bankroll - need major growth here :D.
If you are lucky, along the way you will have some major decisions to make;

I won a Silver Pass on poker stars Power Path Promotion and had to decide what to do with it - Unfortunately, I am in the Caribbean and took the online ticket bundle and did what I could with it. Sadly, when I won, I was not as disciplined as I am now. Eventually, I had to close my account and withdraw 600 Euros, since pokerstars no longer supports my country. My wife was very happy!

Now, I am grinding on 888Poker and you can follow my thread - up to US500.00. Trying to get to the point where I can consistently make USD$100 monthly. To put this in context I can play $1- $5 MTTs but choose to play Mystery Bounties for $1 buy-in. I feel no pressure and can focus on enjoying the game not so much on the money. I am in a place where going broke playing poker is theoretically impossible :D. That is the comfort of playing within your bankroll!

I want to become a poker professional too, but I set that goal for my retirement years. So, I work and play poker for fun right now. You must take some to develop discipline, find the right poker games for you, and manage your bankroll. Discipline goes hand in hand with emotional intelligence and they both develop over time.

There are lots of fun things to do on CC - play team matches, tag team, individual ladder up in tournaments leader board. Too numerous to mention. Start your thread and send me a message so I can follow your progress. Remember - have fun!!!

You might want to self-exclude yourself from the casino and set your table limits.

First of all if you ever want to make profit playing poker you will need discipline and bankroll management.Playing Black jack show that your not ready yet and you should focus on the many many freerolls that cardchat offering you.

Your losing money at poker and then your solution is to go play bj a game where if you play absolutly every hand with perfect strategy you still gonna lose around 0.6% to 1.2% of your money ( if you put 100$ you will end up with around 99$ long term) and lose more it cant ever go in the rigth direction.

Be smart and start playing in a way where u cant lose and grind and learn the game until you will be good enough to be a winning player.

Controlling your emotions will be one of them and yes a cooler can be very tilting but when you will get confident in your game and take the rigth decisions you will understand that you can control your own decisions but not the variance and that if you keep playing ur A+ game those nice spot and those nice final table will keep comming so no pressure if your AA get crack you will get therer again and you know it :)

I started to play tourney mostly 1 year and a half ago and still have a lot to learn but i put out a method who cant be losing :)

1-Freerolls : Yes the freerolls field is smaller then before but theyre still plenty of action so you dont have to put your own money learning the game.

Just from cardchat you got games everyday on replay poker on 888 and on WPT.You also hav CC games on partypoker and GGpoker.Theyre also a ton of options around the different platform for example i really like the 11$ free phase where its easy to get a 11$ ticket for free or the 1.10$ phase ( wich i get from the free wheel) to a 109$ ticket where prize are massive.

2-Deposit bonus Pokerstars usually have a good one same for partypoker WPT and GG have a huge one also.A very good way is to put the minimal deposit required to unlock the offfer and build your bankroll on that room with the bonus and be discipline taking out your itinial deposit.

3-Freebies : Room like partypoker offer a free wheel spins for every week end where u can wn tickets or on pokerstrs where u have a free casino wheel where u can win cash prize and many others.

Pokerstars also offer you a 0.50$ free power path ticket if u rake 1 cent and GG offer you a 25 cent to1$ ticket everyday for free without a need to rake.

Thats my strategy and off course its not perfect but i guess its not too bad if im checking sharscope :D

PS : STAY AWAY FROM ANY CASINO GAMES OTHER THEN POKER UNLESS THEY ARE A FREE BONUS OR SPIN THEY AR EMONEY PIT WITH GARBAGE odds TY LOL :D

Your dreams and their realisation is a matter that depends entirely on you. To achieve any goals, you need discipline and patience, and without them, you will not be able to achieve the goal. If you lack discipline and you realise this, then there is no point in setting yourself any goals.
I think your main goal at the moment should be only one, to play in a disciplined manner and not to pay attention to the results. Discipline should be above all, because without it, all your goals will remain dreams. You just have to realise that discipline is the factor that will help you to be where you want to be. If your motivation is strong enough, you can become a disciplined player. If your motivation is not strong enough, then you should think about whether your goals are really that important to you.
