Hello poker people, how are Y'all doing?

Man, I'm here to just vent it out.

Recently I won at a 2000+ field freeroll at PS and ended up with U$ 9 to play with and burnt it in cash tables the same day.

I really like playing cash and obviously I play micro 02NL cause I definitely still have a lot to learn but most of all I feel like I need more practice.

Cause once in a while I do my game review (always the day after when I'm refreshed) I do go to Flopzilla to practice some hand reading and also understand the odds and percentages and use PT4 to find leaks and use it as far as I know how to.

But I just can´t make my currency won graph go up.

I play by position, by range, use odds and equity... Most of the basic and all, and still can't have a significant reward for all my study and effort.

I feel like I do have to play more cause by practicing I might grasp all the theory studied better but at the same time I have no money to spend right now on BR for cash games so all I can do is play on the freerolls and keep spending the earnings from it in cash games.

I really like playing poker and it would be all good if just had the money and time to spend on it but I don't.

Actually I had to stop playing for a while cause of a gig I had and recently got back to it and I'm realizing that I just can't be profitable at poker with the short time and money that I have.

Guess I'll have to quit it.

Damn...

I'm in the same boat, I'm trying poker star personally for the next few months but I had more success in party poker I think because you have 100k chips, you can afford to play more flops

I just whant to say, that, then u playing freeroll, your skills have no point, exept final table, or in the money. In freeroll all come to be crazy, and doing every crazy think, so if u go all - in with AA and some1 call u with 84 or any over loosing cards. Better mini day after day, play 1-5 tournament with micro buy-ins, and after day check your hh, start to find where u did mistakes or where u can did better for value pot.

Understood.

Still, even on freerolls you need a bit of skill.

But I get what you're saying bud.

Thank you for sharing.

Bro, u just need patience, cause, as u said, u don't have a BR big enough, so u can't handle the variance. Those concept u talked about show you know at least the basics mechanics of the game, but u will only see the results in the long (very long) term, and a lot of times you'll be making the most profitable play, and still get crushed by variance when the fish hits that miraculous card on the river.

Don't be attached to results, stay focused on learning the process, and eventually the results will show up.

Totally brother.

But isn't variance mainly for tourneys?

You said it man... The coolers I get sometimes makes me go crazy. Feels like the platform is messing with me.

But yeah, I understand the concept. Simply there are days that you'll never get the hands within the range and when you do you just don't hit them in the board.

And hey, that's poker.

Thanks for the knowledge man.

Friend, reading your story I realized that you are really trying very hard to get better at this game and that is very commendable. And you're doing everything right, it's worth watching some more types of courses, as well as just games of poker professionals. And of course you shouldn't give up poker so abruptly, take a break, take a break from it for a month or two. And with new zeal come back, we will wait for you in our community! Good luck :)

Really nice message friend. Very emphatic.

Actually I'm coming back to the game. Been away for more than 3 months. Had a few gigs that kept me busy.

And sometimes poker isn't just theory, math and all that right? There's other strategies to it.
One that poker is demanding from me is patience. Well, patience is a virtue right?

Thanks bud.

In order to get more practice, you need to play freerolls more often and improve your level by studying your mistakes and trying not to make them again and learn from the mistakes of other players with whom you play together at the tables.

I totally agree with you man.

There's a guy saying I shouldn't play freerolls.

I don't get it.

Freerolls will not only help me learn, build a BR and all for free hehe.

Definitely I'll stick to the freerolls.

Thanks for the advice bud.

Try switching to Play Money mode in PS. PS gives 15k free of charge every 4 hours or so.

i agree with some of the other posts, you are definately trying and seem smart enough to get better...
i like playing cash too and play mostly 5nl, with the occasional 10nl. ive "beat" 2nl and 5nl and now trying to move to 10nl. i'm almost there. by "beat" i mean won enough to have a BR large enough to move up.
i was a losing player for a long time. i study a lot and play quite a bit. you need to do both. i try to play fri/sat/sun around peak times.... mon/tues i try to not play at all and either study or no poker
the CC chat info is stellar.
for me, if i had to do it again, i would start with:
- the 'crushing the microstakes' books by nathan williams (he's got 3 books and a youtube channel)
- smart poker study on youtube. great teacher on how to effectively do hand reviews to improve your game
- the poker bank on youtube. james sweeney also has some great workbooks to learn range and equity calculations

all the studying aside though, the one thing that improved my game is slowing down during a hand. i find with AA or something big like a floped set on a one suit board or in the middle of a straight, etc, etc... i would get starstruck and not make the fold when i really should... losing less has definatley helped me win more!

good luck!

Perfecting a poker player requires two things:theory and practice. Some players completely ignore the theory part, and most just don't pay enough attention to it.

Really playing poker is very difficult, but it takes patience and willingness to overcome difficulties. Dominating opponents' minds requires first of all mastery with regard to your own strategies during plays. If you like poker don't give up. Be moderate in your betting until you can master a good technique that will allow you to perform well in tournaments.

I like freerolls, too,, but people tend to play crazily when it is not their money.
So, I think for practising purposes, real money tournaments are better.
