First off, apologies for my absence from here for the last few weeks, I was giving WSOP my full focus. The type of satellites you're talking about are very different from traditional satellites, in fact, they're essentially the polar opposite. What makes traditional satellites so different from normal tournaments is how extreme the ICM is because of the flat payouts, and most of "Poker Satellite Strategy" is about the adjustments we should make to our strategy as a result. A satellite where you just have to accumulate a target stack is essentially (from a strategic point of view) a cash game, where you're forced to keep playing with escalating blind levels until you either bust or reach the target. There is no ICM essentially, so correct strategy is identical to cash game strategy. We mention this briefly in the book in relation to winner take all one table satellites, where the same principles apply. Thanks a lot for your question!
