Here, I thought I might be the oddball that would check this flop but happy and relieved to see I am not the only one who thinks this flop should be checked. I like the points that both Fundiver and Eetenor make on why we are checking here. Most draws that we would face here would know there are some large implied odds so they really arent going anywhere and betting large sets up this huge pot out of position where we are still playing scared even though we are betting large. Really like the point Eetenor brought up where the hands we are looking to get value from include smaller one pair hands and those hands will not look to continue if we put a huge bet out there on a board like this. We feel we are vulnerable with Jx top kicker and we are but how much more vulnerable are 9x and 8x or a smaller Jx so those hands are not looking for a big pot to play in and will fold out when you bet this large. When you bet this large you are only going to get big draws and those hands already ahead of you to continue. As played I agree with you and the others that we just fold. I hate this spot and feel like it happens a lot where we have a good hand but the board is scary against multiple players and we are facing a raise but if we are going to call this flop then we already have to be prepared to call it all the way down as most villains here will not let up on us if they dont hit. We are also so deep in this hand that do we want to call down three streets on this type of board? I wouldnt want to and even with the turn which helps us in absolute terms but it also could be a death card that brought in the flush if we had called. Best to run away here with this stack depth. If we were much much shorter than we have some options but here is a pitch and run. [/QUOTE]
