First, I am with Allen Kessler regarding the tournament informing players someone had to withdraw from their table due to Covid. It's all about mitigation and communal responsibility. I do not understand why this is even in question. Regarding refunding buy ins if a player contracted Covid, that's a little more difficult to call. Most tourneys will already have some idea of how many players are dropping out (the WSOP was just held for heaven's sake). If that figure turned out to be low then I would imagine most would not be to put out if players received a refund. Regarding a chip count being reflected in such a payout, I am not sure about that. I can imagine most balking at that until the cash bubble has been reached, and even then it would be contentious. The fact someone was chip leader half way through a tourney is hardly a guarantee they will win it. This is when common sense should rule the day and I would quickly poll as many players as feasible to receive a clear idea of what players think. I am going to assume for instance the WSOP will have records of all who participated in this years series. Email all a short and concise questionnaire on the matter. Majority opinion then becomes a recommendation for all tourneys for the foreseeable future
