online poker: Misinterpretation of Making Money Quickly

I think most online poker players misinterpret playing online poker as a quick source of income.

Making money quickly leads many people to bankruptcy or losing huge sums of money.

According to what I once read, making money with poker is a long process that takes a long time.

What is your opinion on this delicate subject that leads many people to ruin, even leading to the destruction of families?

I think many people underestimate how hard poker actually is, especially with the rake. I read somewhere that between 8-12 BBs/100 is taken away with the rake, and people’s winning rates are usually in the single digit district, and that is if they’re a winner.

I guess that’s both the upside and downside of poker: that beginner’s think it’s easy

I think poker is often misrepresented to make it more attractive to the masses who are not knowledgeable about the game.
Pros put in alot of volume in order to get the results they are after and only the wins are highlighted and celebrated.

The reloads, the tilt, the time to recalibrate their game, the study those things arent made for good tv.

poker dependency is a bad thing for the individual and it should be managed carefully.

On the contrary, I think that the formation of such a source of income as online poker is a long and rather complicated process. I think that if you want to really make money, there are much easier and faster ways than playing online poker.

Only a very small minority of poker players make any money at all... of that small number, only about 2% will actually make enough money to earn a living at it. For most, poker is entertainment, a fun activity that can satisfy one's need for some competition. You see, at 5'1" and 72 years old, I can't beat Tiger Woods at golf, can't hit a 100 mph fastball over the fence at Yankee Stadium, can't beat Novak Djokovic in tennis or put a 100 mph slapshot past an NHL goalie...however, I can compete, in the short run, in poker...and I have. In 2019, I played with the Cardschat team in the wsop Colossus event. I survived 15 hours of poker Day 1 to cash (min cash...lasted 1 hour Day 2), and I outlasted some poker pros that regularly appear at the final table on TV. I doubled up through Richard Seymour, the All-star Defensive Lineman for the New England Patriots (and excellent poker player) ...he's about 6'6" and probably over 250 lbs, but I faced him head-on, unafraid.

Actually I think that max 0,5% can make a decent living from online poker. I’m 68 by the way.
