100% can.... if they have the mental capacity and work ethic.

How many 'will' make a living from those who started out with those 'hopes'.... who knows.... not many.

What % of people who play poker can make a living from it ?
For starters, roughly 80% of the monthly player base loses money playing online.

This doesn't say the same thing as 20% are profitable, but it's a good starting point to understand the "uphill battle" of profiting from poker long term.

The long term success of the game comes from the honest data analysis that you must do on your own performance. It's very challenging, but can certainly be done! :)

I think that really depends on what you consider enough money to live on.

I could estimate this percentage at 5% because I know that there are trained and professional players who have been generating regular income for years.

I don't think we honestly will ever know an answer to this one but I would say one person out of every maybe 50,000 is making a living playing poker but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 1 in 100,000.
I also think that this percentage is very small. Playing poker is always a risk, and living only on playing poker is doubtful; at some point you may simply be left without food, but without pants.😅

sharkscope says that 22% of MTT players are profitable, but that does not makes them living to play poker, so I estimate arround 3-5%

then poker is not profitable and it's just a dream to get big money someday
imagine losing 97 people and gaining only 3

I think only 2-3%. In other words, our chances of becoming professionals are very small, but nevertheless it is definitely worth trying.

Like casino, house always wins. Don't know about other countries, but here in brazil, at live tables (not online), rake is usually 20% for MTTs and SNGs and 5% for cash games

Most high stakes players and pros don't even make a living from poker alone. They all have other ways to make money or have made their money in other ways.

Anyone making a living only from poker would likely never admit it anyways for tax reasons. I mean even in canada here where poker winnings aren't taxed, I've googled it and at a brief reading on the wording....over the long term if you have no other way of showing an income and are living just off poker. I'd bet good money the tax man will be coming for you sooner or later.

We will never know for sure but likely easily less than 5%.

Cheers!!!

What % of people who play poker can make a living from it ?
I recently read a post in our community that stated that only 4% of players make a profit from the game. In my opinion, this figure is somewhat underestimated. I think about 12-15% make a living playing poker.
