When I started playing on PokerStars, my first deposit was 100$, and this allowed me to not spend so much time at 2NL. I think, I played less than 20k hands before moving to 5NL. But if you are only able to deposit 25$ because of financial difficulties, then you are going to be confined to 2NL and freerolls for a considerable amount of time.

And its probably worth a consideration to find another way than online poker to earn 100$ for a more reasonable starting deposit. If I was to start all over again, I would even say, that 100$ should be the absolute minimum, and that 300-500$ is a better starting point for serious players.
