We want to induce action here and not give a reason for villain to fold.  You could think about min raising the turn but that usually looks strong so you will wind up getting a lot of folds with that move.  By making the fake blocker bet on the river we can get villain to possibly call based on the price we are giving them and we also give them a chance to completely tool out and raise us on the river (less likely but always possible).

I am not a huge fan of checking the river here as I would be too afraid that if villain does not have a jack they would be checking behind every time.  If they do have a jack then the fake blocker bet will work perfectly.  If villain is a barrel type player than checking could work but I dont like being in that spot and hoping that villain opens the action when they dont have too and we hold so many of the cards that block villains strong holdings.
